To get the most out of your annual investment in membership means getting involved. You will make more contacts, establish more friendships, do more business and attract more employees. Take an extra hour or two each month to volunteer on a committee or participate in an event.
Economic Development
This committee will support and monitor the success and progress of the strategies and measurement as laid out in the 2008 Plan of Action. The committee will also advise and assist the Executive Director with various long and short-term Economic Development opportunities (NE Futures, Great Streets, CPED, Central Ave. Plan etc.). They will also evaluate partnerships, funding requests and make recommendations to the Board of Directors as necessary.
Objective: Promote and stimulate the growth and prosperity of member businesses and organizations
Strategy:
- Conduct events that enable members to build relationships with one another to promote their business
- Partner with other organizations to promote NE as a destination
Membership
This committee will review the current programs of the chamber in regards to attendance, sponsorship opportunities, budget issues and overall viability. They will make recommendations to the board to add, delete or revise any current program and/or make suggestions for new events and programming. The committee will also assist in recruiting and retaining membership as indicated in the 2008 Plan of Action. The goal is to involve businesses, organizations and individuals in the events, programs and activities of the Chamber in order to assure a healthy financial base from which to function and to promote a better understanding of the Chamber’s role within the community.
Objective: Create and communicate a value premise that maximizes retention and attracts new members.
Strategy:
- Get input from membership regarding perceived value
- Show economic value in marketing materials used for recruitment
- Create incentives for members to recruit new members
- Implement a membership committee that develops a prospect pipeline
Public Policy
The committee will monitor various public policy issues by participating on the MRCC Public Policy committee, reporting to the Board and by acting as resource for the greater membership. Committee members will also monitor the success of the strategies and measurements laid out in the 2008 Plan of Action. They will also assist the Executive Director in the planning and promotion of the various events focused on bringing together policy makers and the membership.
Objective: Mobilize the chamber membership to advocate policies that make our community a better place to live, work and do business.
Strategy:
- Promote Public Policy updates and resources on our website, message board, the Northeaster Newspaper and other local media
- Create and plan events for public education and dialogue with public policy makers
Northeast Parade
Since 2003, the Northeast Chamber has been the organizing force behind this long-standing Northeast tradition celebrating its 77th Anniversary. A 50-member volunteer planning committee helps guide and shape this largest one-day attended event in Northeast. Meetings are held monthly from January to June. The vision of the committee is to listen to all input and make joint recommendations and decisions regarding the parade.
